Modern foreign languages - managing the transition from KS2 to KS3

This event Will Be of Interest To
Teachers of MFL and subject leaders in secondary schools
Local authority personnel e.g. ASTs, advisory teachers, strategy consultants

About This event
The Government's expectation for all pupils in Key Stage 2 to have an entitlement to a foreign language learning experience by 2010 is raising some difficult issues, not least of which is what happens when pupils transfer from primary to secondary school. If the primary entitlement is to succeed, that critical threshold will need to be managed carefully. This event will look at models of good practice in primary/secondary liaison, devising bridging units of work, strategic planning, schemes of work and the impact of the Frameworks on classroom practice.

The benefits of attending
  • To look at best practice in setting up groupings of schools to share teaching and resources
  • To discuss methods of ensuring high quality of information on transfer
  • Investigate the mapping of assessment opportunities and framework objectives into schemes of work
  • Consider key questions affecting smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7
