CENTRA Dyslexia is a relaxed, friendly place. We're here to help, so always ask us if you're not sure about something.
First you sit with a teacher and have a chat. You don't have to write very much.
You have a look at some colourful overlays, to find which ones help you see writing most clearly. We can then use the one you choose as your screen colour on the computer.
We work out how much you can read and spell at the moment. Then we know where you need to start on our programme.
Afterwards, you can decide when you want to come for your first session.
We use a computer programme called IDL which works very well for helping your reading and spelling.
You learn to touch-type as part of the session. "Touch-typing" means that your fingers learn where the keys are, and after a while you don't need to search for each letter when you're typing.
You start on the programme at a place that's right for you. Some people work slowly through the lessons, others go more quickly.
When you've been coming for a few months, we check how much you have improved. We will give you a chart to show you how much better you are doing.
You can come for 1 or 2 sessions each week. You will probably get on more quickly if you come for 2 sessions a week.
If you need some extra practice for things you find difficult, or for a project at school, we can help you with that too.
