Toyota supra!!!!!auto or 6 speed...?
Question: i just bought a 1998 Toyota Supra 3.0L V6 EFI engine and an automatic transmission..am thinking of putting a manual transsmission on it but i was wondering if will work the same as an original manual supra or if it could be slower.... anyways tell me what u think please it is a non turbo (also tell me if it was a good deal i got it for 24,000 and there are 64000 miles on it )

Even with the low miles - you overpaid by a bunch. Check Edmunds - even with every option and outstanding condition and the low miles - they show a dealer price of 18k for that car. Don't change the transmission - it's not worth the expense. If you want one with a stick - buy one with a stick and sell that one.
either engines would be great.I know what your saying tho Top secret world famous company had a rb engines Supra and sayed every car should be fited with an RB. Both great cars and engines.I suppose it depends on cost how easy to get one and do you want a project. The Rb as with the jz engines are great tuneable engines and can both reach high bhp limits. So its personal choice i think as there like for like. The RB will take great limits as iam sure the jz engine will with any internal work. So the answer is its all personal choice although you start off a little higher bhp with the 2JZ.
the main ecu for fuel injection is made for the automatic transmission, so you definately need a new computer system and wire harness to to go with the new computer and sensors put on the engine. it would be so much faster in manual drive. You actually got a good price. Supras are rare. and i agree with the guy above me, a turbo with that many miles and that year would be around 30 to 40 g's. it is worth swapping transmissions, because when you find the perfect rpm in that car to shift at, you get a boost if your drag racing.You will have to change the trany(or how ever you spell it, i forgot). Also, look into any changes you might need to make to your ECU. Some cars have different programs for the automatic to the manual transmission.
Surprisingly manual is NOT always faster than manual. I think it was the new Mustang auto that is faster than the manual by just a tick. That's because the new auto has an unique way to engage the next gear WHILE disengaging the last year. But how fast is not the complete answer. When driving a sports car (on track at least), you want the control to be in the gear of choosing. So Automatic can be fast (slightly) you'll always see professional race drivers manually choosing gears. But here's the last point, often Indy drivers choose gears, but their transmissions are more like "tiptronics" type auto. In another words they just hit UP and DOWN levers and let the car do the rest. It is much quicker and for them that's what counts. === I have an Audi A4 with Tiptronics auto and Civic with 5 speed manual. They both have their pros and cons.
Yuo actually got a good price contrary to the previous answer. Supras are in high demand. A turbo with that many miles and that year would be around $35,000-$40,000. It's not really worht swapping for a manual. It will cost you a lot!! You have to change the traanny, add a clutch, shifter, cables etc.- not to mention changing your center console. Also, look into any changes you might need to make to your ECU. Some cars have different program for the automatic as opposed to the manual transmission. yours might since you have an electronic automatic.
The Supra will require the highest octane you can get,I have owned a good few Japanese imports and use the highest octane i can,my lesson was learnt when i once used a low octane fuel and the car went crazy and it needed repairs and to fix the damage which was done,my bro also tried this with his Japansese turboed car and it caused damage to his car also. Some cars will run for a long time on a low octane fuel and you will not be aware of any problems but this is like eating cream cakes everyday,some people will be ill quickly whilst others will go on and and on and the damge is being done on the inside slowly. So def use a high octane fuel is no other reason then for the power you will lose by not adding it. You may have to find a Garage which sells the right for you,i have to travel by a mass of garages to the next town just to get the right fuel.So find out which garages supply the right fuel for you and it ay be a right out and again find the pump which has that right fuel on and enjoy,it is worth any ride out to know and feel the car is running true and safe.
