Why won't it connect to the internet?
Question: I just assembled a new computer and everything has gone smoothly so far up until I tried establishing a connection to the internet. I installed all the drivers and when I plug in the Ethernet cable it shows on the screen that the "Network cable is unplugged". Any ideas as to whats going on? Below I've listed all the components to my computer. 1. CASE RAIDMAX|ATX-801WBP BK RT 2. MB ASUS M3N72-D AM2+ NF750A SLI RT 3. VGA MSI N9800GT 512OC 9800GT 512M R MSI 4. CPU AMD|PH X4 9950 BLK2.6G 65N R 5. MEM 1G|PATRIOT DII800 PEP21G6400LL 6. HD 160G|WD 7K 8M ATA100 WD1600AAJB 7. DVD BURN SAMSUNG|SH-S223Q LS % I've tried the cable on other computers and it works just fine, I get no lights in the back of the computer so I know there is no connection whatsoever, and sometimes when I restart the computer it says to check the LAN connection (and I do) and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. Also I live in an apartment complex so I know everything is working fine (at least to the shitty complex's standards) and I also have a laptop to verify. Uninstalling/Reinstalling the driver doesn't seem to be working either =/

Make sure the ethernet cable is connected in the ethernet network restart the computer, make sure ur dsl modem or cablem modem is flashing the light for the internet. Sometimes the company goes down and u lose connection. If none of this work try this: 1. Start>Right click my computer> 2. Manage 3.Device Manager 4. Look for network card uninstall it 5. Restart the computer 6. it shoutl install it back on its own If it still dont work i would take the computer back and exchange it for another it could be the network card malfunctioning!!!!
To be able to have your ethernet connection to work in the last resort before sending in for repairs or others, is to go to Control Panel, click "Network Connections". Once prompted, click on icon that connects to internet, right click it, it will show as "Enable" or "Disable". Maybe your option in that particular ethernet card was set as disabled. Try enable it. There are three types of connections for your computer. One is 1394 connection, other is wireless connection and lastly local area connection (this is most common use for connections to internet if you have router in network). Best of Luck! if your sure the cable and the router is good then go back to device manager and delete the network driver and allow the system to reinstall it - if this fails check the properties of the network card and make sure its set for auto -
Yes, you can do this, but it would be much easier to get a wifi card installed. Regardless, what you need to do, is enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the wireless connection of the laptop. Now, it will share that wireless connection with anything that connects to it. Using a crossover ethernet cable (not a straight-through ethernet cable), connect the laptop and desktop. Once connected, if I recall correctly, this will allow the desktop to now get online. If not, you may need to specify ip address information on the wired connections of both computers.
