I have a 98 explorer. my radio has the constant voltage but no main power. fuses are good.under hood? any idea
Question: is there another under the hood or a standard problem on a particualr card inside the head unit? i would rather not hot wire my stereo to the battery, but if i have to; is there a best way?

Check fuses in the interior fuse panel, located in dash on the drivers side. You'll need to open the drivers door to see the cover. Radio fuse should be in slot 20. If you have the original radio, problem could be radio. If radio is AM FM CD & Cassette, try pushing the on-off button and turn up the volume. Those radios have a problem that affects the display but the radio will still play.
First you need to goto your autoparts store and either buy or ask if you can look in a user manual for your car. In it usually at the beginning of the book it will show you a picture of the fuse / Relay box under the hood. It will also tell you what amps you'll need, where to put them, and what they power. You'll also have a fuse / relay box in the car that usually has a dagram on the cover. ** If the area your trying to fill has 3 or 4 post entries then that is not a fuse it is a relay** Good Luck Buy the book you'll always need it. there are usually 2 power cables on a radio. one goes to the constant (battery) of the car. The other goes to a switchable power source (something that turns on when the car is turned on.) If you can find the ignition wire that is your best bet. (BE CAREFUL WITH THAT WIRE!) Also things like the brake lights and heater/airconditioner fans usually run only when the ignition is on. If you tap into one of those it should work. hope this helps.
Replace the air ride relay, the oddly shaped $70 one, and make sure your computer is sending the signal to the compressor to start. Good luck. If the solenoids aren't functioning either it's most likely the relay.
