PC to Xbox 360 Media center Extender question?
Question: I'm trying to connect my pc with my xbox and I just have ethernet cable straight from pc to xbox 360 without any internet connection and the xbox says it's not connected. What's the problem? do i need internet connection in order to establish this or some sort of router?

you dont need any internet connection for the windows media center. the ethernet cable will do. the connection probably didnt work though because the xbox couldnt find your pc and your pc the xbox. somethings wrong with the ip address. try changing your ip address to manual if it is on auto..and auto if it is on manual.

I am kind of confused on what your question is but I will try to help. If you are trying to hook your Xbox up to the internet, you need to connect it to the router or the modem. Then if your PC is the Media Center Edition, it should recognize the Xbox on the same network and a balloon will come up on the bottom right. If I didn't answer your question, please clarify.
Make sure you can use it first. It will only work if you have Windows Media Center which is seperate prgram and is more then just Windows Media Player. Windows Media Center ONLY comes with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and Windows Vista. It is not available as a seperate program and only comes with those specific Windows Operating Systems. Normal XP, XP Home or XP Professional do not include Media Center and it can not be added to them. If you do happen to have the correct operating system I would suggest you make sure to disable any other programs that may be running in the background as they can cause problems when installing new windows programs. Also remeber that the Media Extender will not allow you to view or other wise use your 360 on your computer and only allows you to view WMP files, photos and music on your TV using Media Center. MP4/Quick Time, Divix and RealPlayer files will not work. If you are wanting to use your 360 on your PC, you will need a TV Tuner Card or you can just buy the VGA cable for the 360 and plug it directly into your monitor. Your computer grfx card will not accept Video In signlas and only sends video out.
you elect for a community cable to connect on your computing device. acquire the extender on x-field stay or get the latest abode windows media participant. you wont be waiting to maintain the songs on on your stressful force yet you may play track on your comp throughout the time of the x-field.
try this... click the windows start button (bottom left corner) click run type "services.msc" (no quotes) a window will pop up called services,scroll down until you find SSDP Discovery. right click SSDP Discovery then click properties change startup type to automatic & save. now try windows media player,click the little arrow under library go to media sharing then share media you should see a little Xbox360,tick it then apply. that's how I got mine working but if you still have trouble then your firewall may be blocking media sharing. If your using Norton then allow SSDP networking. hope that helps.
