Master volume controls won't display?
Question: First time, it ever happend. It shows up on taskbar but when i click on it to show it won't show. Please, anyone help. Please tell how to get my volume window pane to show up. I can't even get into properties or to adjust the volume. "master volume" title will show on taskbar but when i click it nothing happens. What do i need to do? Step by step please. Not that much experience on fixing with computers. Will a system restore help the problem? Cause, I am thinking to do this also?

try to open it from SOUND in the CONTROL PANEL. and check it...if it doesn't work, then try unistalling and reinstalling the sound driver. and if it doesn't work (if your sound card is pci) then reinstall the card and try restarting the computer. also try to scan with an anti-virus to c if this is not a virus.

This sounds like a sound card driver/firmware problem to me. Go to your sound card manufacture and download the newest drivers for your soundcard.
I don't have a vaio handy to verify this, but have you tried pressing f5 without fn button? Doesn't "fn" mean "I want F5, not brightness"? I'd recommend checking the manual to make sure how to adjust brightness. If this fails, then chances are your backlight failed. Either the lightbulb or circuit that controls it. This would mean you have to bring it in for a repair.
My computer does this but then again the sound card got fried somehow. I know that is not much help.
