Why am i so sleepy all the time?
Question: Im a teenager that can never get a good amount of sleep. I live in the suburbs where its nice and quiet and nothing outside to really distract me of wake me up from my sleep. I wake up with the biggest blue bags of eyes like i Just woke up when in actuality, Ive been up for the past 2 hours in my my bed trying to go back to sleep.It really drags on my day and I keep my sleep schedule tight by never going to sleep past twelve and landing on my bed around 10. and somehow I wake up at 7 or 8 every time waking up in the middle of the night occasionally. How Can i Get a good amount of sleep everyday? I exercise just about everyday because Im on the soccer team and I would say that I eat well.My mind is really not preoccupied on anything really important. Im disliking on what Im starting to look like. I dont think Im stressed and Im only a teenager.

i have the same problem haha! it could be to do with your bodys clock e.g. if i wasent made to get up id usually be up at around 10:30 but when i have to leave my house at 8 i look as if i havent slept in years xD If you're not sleeping between 7 and 10 hours every night then a lack of sleep doesn't exactly help. But even factors like how you sleep and your bedclothes can make you feel tired too. Heavy meals, and/or a lot of sugar, can make you sleepy too. Oversleeping Oversleeping may be caused by a combination of factors including psychological issues but it often our body trying to regain energy but in doing so throws it out of sync with the other parts of the systems of sleeping that allow us to remain healthy and gain energy for the next day. If you try to force yourself to oversleep you also get this out of sync effect and often you will not have enough time to do the things you need which can cause depression and more skipping of sleep at a later date. Sleep Windows A sleep window is a period of time the body says "I want to sleep now!" which shows by yawning, lack of energy and generally feeling tired. Often however we push our bodies through this window if we do not want to go to bed at that point making us miss this window. If we miss this window we stop feeling sleepy as our brain gears up for more work and then it becomes difficult to sleep until another window comes around again. Sporadically missing windows of sleep can affect the quality and quantity of sleep we get leading us to feeling sleepy all the time. Sleep Cycles When we are actually sleeping our brains are going through a complicated process which is called a sleep cycle. This begins with a light sleep but gradually our brains become slower and slower until we reach a very deep sleep which eventually ends as our brains start winding up again and then the cycle starts again. Most peoples sleep cycle are approximately four hours long allowing two cycles per night but this time can vary to be greatly shorter or longer depending on the person. If we awaken in the deepest part of our sleep it is like trying to start a car that is very cold and takes a lot of effort to get moving making us feel groggy and not giving the brain a chance to do the proper mental processes it needed to for good health and energy. If we wake at the wrong time we can be asking Why Am I Sleepy All The Time without knowing exactly why but the quality of the sleep is compromised because of it.
1. What did you dream about last night? -I had no dream last night. It was really confusing, because I fell asleep on accident. I woke up around 6 am confused as hell with several texts and calls from my boyfriend. 2. Do you get really bad bedhead? -Yes. I'm like a lion. 3. How do you normally get to sleep? -I play puzzle bobble on xbox live and talk to my boyfriend and his friends in a party until I get tired. 4. What do you first wake up to? -I usually sleep through my alarm. My daughter wakes me up. 5. What do you do to wake up? -Today, I responded to my boyfriend's texts right away. I saw he left me some messages on facebook. there was a message that just said "wake up" with some link on there. I was thinking it was just some silly picture or something. But to my surprise, it was a SCREAMER. with the exorcist girl and screaming. God. I jumped out of my seat and cried. He's going to get it later. -___-
You need to eat well everyday, but never overeat. Make sure you take naps at least once a day, in the afternoon or the morning, when you feel you are still a bit sleepy. Do not watch too much television at the times of night, or play video games that make lots of noise and light. Don't stress about too much things, or it will cut into your sleep time, and you'll be thinking about it when you're trying to have a rest. In case that happens, think of something that will keep you calm and asleep, like your favorite past time or your destined career. Just don't think about stress. After this, I'm sure you will have good sleeps everyday, and your friends will not think about your bags under those eyes :).
Maybe you just need to go to the dr. and tell them that you can't sleep. They do have meds out there to help you sleep at night. I can't sleep at night either I wake up all the time at night every night. I went to the dr. and found out I have an autoimmune disease that is what is making me tired all the time but I also had other symptoms. So I would say either talk to your parents and tell them you can't sleep and see if they can get you some otc (over the counter) sleeping pills, or make an appointment for you to see why it is that you can't sleep. I know this is a tough one for you but it sounds as if you need more sleep. Your eyes are putting in a 14 to 15 hour day but not getting enough downtime to rest. Eye fatigue is one of the under reported causes of sleepiness. If you can take even a 1 hour nap between your office job and freelance, your eyes may do a bit better. Be sure to not drink caffeine, energy drinks or eat a lot of sugar. Your body stays 'up' for awhile but then you get the big crash. Eat every three hours or so and smaller amounts. When you eat a lot, your body wants to take a nap! Try eating a small carb and some protein. Crackers or apples with cheese or peanut butter, turkey and cheese sandwich, fruit, nuts, lowfat chips. Also, a multi-vitamin might help keep you healthy and feeling a bit more energetic. Good luck to you!
