Question: I'm currently going to college to get my BA in psychology. I want to be able to work in a school with kids but I also want to be able to work in an office providing counseling to families and couples. I plan on getting my Masters. There are a few parts to my question so please make sure to answer all parts and be clear and detailed. Also it would be great if the person answering had actually gone down the same path that I'm currently working on. Here are my questions: 1. I want to work in a school with kids and talk to them about their problems at home/school/etc and help them through difficult things. I DO NOT want to diagnose and treat kids with learning disabilities and that sort of thing. Is my desired job called school psychologist or is it called school counselor? 2. What do I need to do in order to work in a school with kids AND also be able to work outside of a school at the same time to counsel families and couples? (Meaning, what degrees or certification do i need?) 3. What job options are available for someone with a BA in psychology while they are working on their Masters? (I mean jobs that actually have something to do with psychology NOT human resources jobs etc) 4. What is the approx hourly pay that someone with a BA in psychology could expect to make? 5. Am I required to complete a residency in order to obtain my BA or Masters in psychology before I'm allowed to start working? (If yes, please specifiy which degree required the residency) 6. Is there anything else I'm required to do or complete before I can start working once I have obtained my Bachelors or Masters? (for ex, do i need to complete a certain number of supervised hours counseling people, and please specify which degree requires this) Thank you!
