Guinea pig help me please.?
Question: Okay so I am a big animal lover and I pamper my pets and everything. I had my cat die recently and my dad and mom wont let me get one for a while. I have ahd a hamster before (she died of cancer a year ago) and I have also had rabbit who lived to be 8 years old. I have 2 dogs as well but they stay down stairs. The guinea pig would be in my room. And I am paying for it . Im 15 almost 16 and income isn't great at all. My friend has a practically new cage I can have but it's for 1 guinea pig only. My dad told me to get 2. But i'd have to buy my own cage so yea. I need to find an affordable cage. He also want me to adopt from the guinea pig rescue in double oak tx. Idk what to do or where to go. I want to be able to care for one not two but is it better. Also I want girls. And i need names. I was thinking Isabella so I could call one Izzy. But i dont know please help me. Thanks :) my question is . where should i get one? should i get 2 or 1? best cage to get for 2? any girl names? just read and ull see

YAY! i just got a guinea pig for the first time yesterday.i, too, am sixteen so i understand your financial difficulties. I only got one because i was afraid if i got two, my guinea's would ignore me. which is completely deleting the whole point of me getting a guinea pig. If moneys the problem, only get one. play with the guinea pig daily. she wont get too lonely if your as good of a pet owner as you claim to be. guinea pig rescues are amazing, but unfortunately there's none around me so i had to downgrade to PetCo. i know, rescues are better but i had no choice. so good for you for adopting make sure your room has a big window to air out because the guinea feed and bedding smells terrible. i couldnt breath last night. but still, their cute, cuddly, and amazing pets. sorry if my response doesnt answer your question. good luck! p.s- i named mine Daisy. because i love daisy's, and she looks like a hippie. =)
1. Leave him alone for a few days. He may not eat for a couple days; this is normal as long as it isn't going on for extended periods. After a few days, try hand feeding him a small piece of carrot. Try to pet him softly. Then you can pick him up. When you do, stroke him for a long time so he knows your scent and he knows you are not going to hurt him. Just be patient; guinea pigs are very timid animals at first. 2. They can respond to names. Don't worry about confusing him though. My female was originally named Annabelle for about a year or two of her life, but after I adopted her I decided it didn't fit her; so I changed it to Poppy. She will perk up when I say Poppy! Most guinea pigs can respond to the tone of voice and the direction in which it's coming; so some can pick up that you are saying their name. 3. Well, they need one cup of fresh vegetables each day! 1/2 cup in the morning, 1/2 cup at night. Things like endive, romaine lettuce (no iceberg), baby carrots, parsley, cilantro, kale, chard, carrot top greens, mustard greens, chopped celery, cucumbers, fresh corn off the cob, tiny servings of cabbage, broccoli, and baby tomatoes are all good choices. Romaine lettuce can be fed pretty much everyday; everything else, switch in out every other day for variety. Make sure that you feed 1/8 of a green bell pepper once daily so he gets his daily required Vitamin C. NO VITAMIN C DROPS IN THE WATER! They are harmful to your piggie's health. Also, make sure he gets unlimited, yes unlimited, TIMOTHY hay!! No alfalfa. He has to get timothy or some kind of grass hay; it's essential for his health. He also needs to eat pellets; choose Oxbow brand. None of those mixes with colored things, dried fruits/veggies, seeds, nuts, nothing! Just plain. 1/8 of a cup once a day is fine. 4. Most likely every 4 days for one guinea pig. It varies. 5. Yes totally! Guinea pigs are very social animals! Just make sure you introduce the two males properly; or if the boy is fixed, you may adopt a female for him, but ONLY if he is neutered. Or if the female is spayed, but that's a rarer find. 6. NO!!!! First; you'd cook the guinea pig (at any stage of life; don't know WHY someone said a baby needs one!) with a heat lamp. Pet reptiles need one, but not pet mammals. Second, guinea pigs CANNOT run in wheels OR exercise balls!!! Their spines do not bend back to fit in the O shape! No matter how big the wheel/ball, they will break their backs in it. Plus they hate it. For the platform, no, guinea pigs don't enjoy to climb things. They can't really either. 7. How to introduce them to dogs? You don't. The dogs do not need to meet them. But they can get used to their scent. Keep your door closed as long as the window is open for ventilation; and don't keep your guinea pig in a tank. The barking will scare him.
