My laptop pauses every few seconds since I moved. Damaged or software problem?
Question: Yah...I'm an idiot. I don't think I packed it too well and it now skips every few seconds, causing it to pause momentarily whatever it was doing. Honestly, not very noticible. But very annoying when I'm watching movies and it skips or playing games. Sometimes if I move the movie back or foward a bit it fixes the problem for a minute or two. What is going on and how do I fix this??

Unless the skipping is related to the drives ability to read a cd/dvd then it would not be a hardware issue. If the pauses only occur during video / gameplay then you may be maxing out the systems' capabilities. Do you have enough processor power and RAM to do the things that you do? If this used to work and now it doesn't perhaps you have a spy ware issue. What processes are running when the system pauses? Assuming you are running Windows XP you could look in Task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) to see what processes are running on your system. Select the Processes tab and check the box that states "Show processes for all users". Most of the items you see should be Windows System processes, such as svchost.exe and of course taskmgr.exe, which is the task manager window you are using. If you do not recognize a process...Google it. Alternatively you can download a program called Autoruns from http:www.sysinternals.com. This will scan your system for everything that is executed auto magically when you start the machine. You can then locate and delete items that you do not want or are malicious
The parking pawl may have been snapped off and is now laying in the transmission pan. You need to see if the vehicle rolls while in Park or take off the tranny pan to look for parts in the pan. If it rolls in Park the pawl snapped off. If it still stays parked you may have gotten lucky.
yess! i hate dial up they take always. lol. identity say in basic terms spend the more advantageous money and get something else. yet for dialup in basic terms pause the video until eventually eventually the pink line that exhibits is loading is a million/2 way via the video. then initiate staring at it. :]
well the steps you have taken have eliminated the possibility of the problem being software, so the only things left it could be is the ram the cpu or the power supply
It is most likely a easily fixable harddrive damage, just contact the ppl. who made the laptop and ask the ppl. who to fix it If dell made the laptop, don't bother.
