Question: it comes up as a dvd player in my computer folder and when i have a cd or dvd in the blu-ray drive it doesnt appear in the blu ray drive when i go to my computer and into the blu-ray drive folder. its a sony bwu-100a and sony doesnt give out any downloads for it anymore because they dont sell it anymore so where can i go to download a program to get it working? the install cd wont even work because its also not being read by the blu-ray driver this fixed it Please remove your secondary IDE channel from the Device Manager. If you are having issues getting your drive detected then please try the following: Ensure the Sony drive is set as a secondary master by itself. If you have another disc burner or a zip drive on the same IDE cable, please separate them. Ensure you have the latest Service pack for your Windows operating system and any other updates for your system installed. Please remove your secondary IDE channel from the Device Manager. To do this: Right click on My Computer and then left click on properties. Choose hardware tab. Select Device Manager. Click on the + in front of IDE/ATAPI controller. Right click on secondary IDE and then choose uninstall. Restart your computer. Ensure you have the latest BIOS and Motherboard updates for your system. Sounds like it could be a faulty drive then, alternatively put the OLD drive back, install drivers from CD then put new drive in again, see if that helps.
Did it stop reading the disc before or after the Windows update? If it was after, then try uninstalling the Windows update. Another option is to try a System Restore before the problem started. If that doesn't work, try disconnecting the drive cable itself and reconnect it. If none of the options provided work, including updating your drivers as suggested, then it's a high possibility it's the drive itself.
Improper connection, jumpers set improperly, faulty cable, bad power supply or the unit needs replacement. If you can afford it purchase a multi- format dvd writer They also read and write cds and dvds
CD/DVD drive has their own speed, so when you insert a disk with a faster speed it will not perform well or might not even read them even if you update your driver . You should change your CD/DVD drive to a faster one.
Maybe the discs you put in aren't blue ray. If their regular cd's then it won't work on blu ray =]
