Question: Ok so i heard that linux is free os for computers. I am windows vista and it sucks big time. i Have looked into getting it but there are so many different types. i am looking for one that will fit me. I use auto cad. play games and go on the internet. Also would like to know how you install it I luv windows 7 but it is so much $ also my cd drive is broken. anyway i can use a usb? also can u dual boot with it?

Go with Windows 7 LINUX is great for the super geeks. I don't recommend it for newbies because it still does not support applications and games like a Windows machine. In my personal opinion even the IPAD Mini is a better option at this time. LINUX is more focused towards server based functions so it's not as user friendly as Windows yet. If you were to get a LINUX version the ones to get would be .. I believe you can buy Windows 7 directly from Microsoft at their website which should allow you to download it to your system and run the installer. You can dual boot. I have Windows 8, 7 and XP all running on same machine via their own partitions. I use to have LINUX installed too but decided not to install it this time to grant more space to Windows.
If you are going to try and learn linux, why spend your money on a new laptop? You can download Wubi that allows you to run Ubuntu as a full installation of the OS, but you can uninstall it like any Windows program. I know Dell and HP both have full-size notebooks with Linux that can be pre-installed, but most Linux OSs are free, so why pay the cash for a new laptop?

Ubuntu is popular, but easy? It is no more or less easy than dozens of other distributions out there. And it really isn't one of the more stable distros, either. I would stay away from Ubuntu and it's derivatives. Get a stable distro like Slackware. www.slackware.com. Most games are compatible with linux - I now this because I play a ton of games on linux, and most of them work fine. Some don't. If you just want to play games, get Windows 7. It's really good at games, though that is all that I use Windows for. For everything else, I use linux.
I installed an nLited version of XP Home on my Eee 701 4G, which I upgraded to 1GB of RAM (cost $20). It runs fine. No driver problems, it's not slow, and I don't have problems running any of my programs. The Eee is fully functional with Windows.
