Question: My husband's green card expired and he was allowed to renew within only 3 months prior to the expiration date, and he did renew it. He is currently in the process of renewing his green card and has received a letter from USCIS that allows him to work for an additional year from his green card's expiration date while the "removing of temporary residence" (it was a 2 year green card) is being processed. His driver's license has expired and he still has a valid passport to use as a picture ID. Can he renew his driver's license? Btw, we reside in CA. We've been to two DMV offices and got different answers. The first person said his passport is no good because it's expired, but it obviously is not. The second person didn't give him a reason why, she just said we can't. A third person said he needs to renew his green card. A fourth person on the phone said he only needs his passport and letter that states his status is extended for that one year. If this helps, he does have an unrestricted social security number; the same as mine and I'm a US citizen. What does he need to renew his driver's license? By law, should he be able to with the letter and a valid photo ID?
