Question: I'm going to be a junior in high school. During my sophomore year, I had a 4.15 GPA, straight A's all year (I can't take AP classes until junior year. I'll be taking three next year.). I took a PSAT, but wasn't able to know my exact score. I'll post that as soon as possible. Yearlong, I've been taking private piano lessons for about 6 years. I take a statewide piano test involving performing pieces and written music theory. I'm level 8 out of 10. I was in the music program (orchestra specifically) and was part of animation and music club. While in the music program I arranged the song "Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles for a small string orchestra. I also took after school time to teach elementary school students how to play percussion instruments. During the spring I joined the track team and ran a whole season. Now, in the summer, I've been teaching how to play the recorder at a local Ronald McDonald Charity House when I can, and also signed up to teach piano and percussion with pay. I've been taking swimming lessons during the weekends. I also plan to volunteer at my local library and obtain my Driver's Ed permit. All while completing summer assignments. How do I look? I'm wondering because I feel that I'm not doing enough; I have some friends who flew across the nation participating in a complex summer program with specific courses. I tried signing up for a two-week engineering program in a state college but was ultimately rejected. I also found some other opportunities but ultimately never gave them thought about it since I had found out about them so early in the year. Am I doing enough? Also, about one or two Sundays a month, I play piano for a community cult gathering, playing hymns for them to sing along to and pieces for them to listen to. I also recently joined robotics. I'm not familiar with them yet, but I will be starting a beginner robotic boot camp near the end of summer. Thanks for your answers (so far)! They've contributed well to my opinion on how I'm doing. :) edit: Most of my activities are weekly. I teach recorder usually on Mondays and Tuesdays. Music mentoring was every Friday (and Wednesday later on). Piano lessons are once a week. Clubs were once a week. The only exceptions were Track, which was everyday, sometimes including Saturdays, and my orchestra class. PSAT scores: Critical reading: 54 Mathematics: 62 Writing Skills: 53 In all 3 of my tests, I scored higher than at least 80% of sophomores in the nation. I can't really take anymore AP classes unless I drop any other class (All of which I want to/should take) Most AP classes require taking an honors level class first.
